consulting
Helping authors, literary estates, heirs, attorneys, agents, publishers, and producers gain clarity about stewardship, governance, and long-term planning.

I’m Charlotte Jones Voiklis. I help authors, literary estates, heirs, publishers, agents, producers, and the institutions that house or license their work gain clarity about stewardship, governance, and the long-term future of creative work.
This comes out of two decades managing the literary estate of Madeleine L’Engle — the contracts, the licensing, the adaptations, the succession questions, all of it in practice rather than theory.
My work centers on questions that don’t come with a template: how an estate should be managed, how a family prepares for succession, what a licensing or adaptation opportunity is really worth, how an archive should be organized or given a home, how an organization holds onto both its relationships and its intellectual property at once. The common thread is helping people make choices with a clearer understanding of what they are protecting, what they are changing, and what those choices may make possible later.
Every engagement is different: some are a single conversation, others unfold over months or years. All of them start the same way: a free 30-minute call to talk through what you’re facing and see what would be useful.

for heirs, executors, and families
I help sort through the questions that don’t come with instructions: what to do with the work, how to decide what matters, and how to proceed when priorities compete or family dynamics are in play. I offer space, structure, and mediation when needed, so decisions about the work can be made deliberately, with a clearer sense of priorities, consequences, and long-term strategy.

for attorneys, agents, publishers, and producers
Whether you’re managing IP, negotiating rights, developing an adaptation, or preparing for transition, I help you and your clients clarify priorities, surface disagreements, and think through the implications before key decisions need to be made. The goal is to complement the work you already do, so clients come to those decisions with a clearer understanding of what they want to accomplish, what they are willing to change, and what they want to protect.

for authors, scholars, and librarians
I work with authors thinking ahead to the future of their work, and with scholars, librarians, and archivists responsible for preserving, interpreting, and making creative legacies available. The common questions are about access, intention, responsibility, and what it means to care for work that belongs, in different ways, to more than one person.
